Who we are

ThinkEconomics (thinkeconomics.co.uk) is operated by Ryan Hughes as a sole trader. For anything relating to this policy, or to exercise any of the rights described below, contact support@thinkeconomics.co.uk.

What we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we hold:

  • Account details - name, username, email address (where provided), password (stored hashed, never in plain text), and account type (student/teacher).
  • School information - a school a teacher or student has told us they're linked to. This is self-declared and used for organising classes, not verified unless a teacher has separately completed our teacher verification process.
  • Usage data - which quizzes you've attempted, your answers and scores, and timing information, so we can show you (or your teacher) progress and recommendations.
  • Assignment and class data - for teachers, the classes, students and assignments you set up in order to run your own teaching.
  • Contact form submissions - anything you send us via our Contact Us form.

Automatic data collection

Like virtually every website, we keep standard server logs of page visits - this applies whether you're logged in or just browsing. Each entry records which page was requested, the page you came from, your IP address, a session identifier, and your browser's user agent string - the same kind of technical record any web server keeps automatically, nothing beyond that. We use it only for two things: understanding how the platform is actually being used, and investigating abuse or technical problems if they come up. We don't use it for advertising, we don't sell it, and it's kept for 12 months before being automatically deleted.

Accounts created by a teacher

A teacher can create student accounts for their class directly, without that student registering themselves. In this case, the school/teacher is the data controller for that student's information, and ThinkEconomics acts as a data processor on their behalf - the teacher is responsible for ensuring they have a proper basis to create the account and for managing it (e.g. removing it when a student leaves). We only ever use that data to provide the platform's normal functionality (running quizzes, tracking progress, showing results to the teacher who created the account) and never for any other purpose.

Why we use your data

To provide the service you've signed up for (running quizzes, tracking your progress, letting teachers manage classes and assignments), to respond to messages you send us, and to keep the platform secure and working correctly. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep account and usage data for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, email support@thinkeconomics.co.uk and we'll action this, save for anything we're required to keep for a legitimate reason (e.g. records needed for an active school subscription).

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you logged in and remember your session - see our Cookie Policy for details. We don't currently use any analytics or advertising cookies.

Sharing your data

We don't share your data with third parties, except where necessary to run the service itself (e.g. our email and hosting providers) or where required by law.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to access the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and object to how we use it. To exercise any of these, email support@thinkeconomics.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
